Interactive Craft Space 2012
Cultural Inspirations held the Interactive Craft Space at Viva La Gong on 10 November 2012. The Interactive Craft space provided adults the opportunity to try out crafts such as knitting, weaving, embroidery and hooky mat making. It helped unlock the creative side whilst having some fun trying out new things and meeting new people.
Knit Wool on Gong 2011
Knit Wool on Gong was a community based project at the Viva La Gong Festival. The purpose of Knit Wool on Gong is to bring together knitters to create the largest blanket in one day and to create a sense of community and pride in what Wollongong artisans can do together.
33 knitters came together in Wollongong's MacCabe Park to create squares for a blanket and another 10 knitters gathered at Marco Polo, Unanderra and at the Baha’i Centre of Learning, Russell Vale . The blanket shows the individuality of each knitter through the choice of wool and colour, the knitting style and ability. From beginner, learning to knit on the day, to experienced knitters joined in; meeting old friends and making new ones. The youngest participant was 6 and the oldest 80 and we even had a couple of men giving it a go…the event was truly inclusive and for everyone.
The blanket was exhibited at the Wollongong City Library from 6 - 19 March 2012 and is now being raffled at the Wollongong City Gallery on 2 November 2012. Buy your ticket at the Gallery.
