Project Management

Picture
Creativity is generated in the right work, social and cultural environment.  Our projects aim to build the creative capacity needed to foster social cohesion, social inclusion and inter-cultural understanding. We provide Creative Solutions to cultural issues in business, not-for-profit organisations and urban communities in the Illawarra. We achieve this through engaging people in open dialogue, building a sense of purpose, and managing change.

Knit Wool on Gong

Knit Wool on Gong is a community based project at the Viva La Gong Festival. The purpose of Knit Wool on Gong is to bring together knitters to create the largest blanket in one day and to create a sense of community and pride in what Wollongong artisans can do together.

33 knitters came together in Wollongong's MacCabe Park to create
squares for a blanket and another 10 knitters gathered at Marco Polo, Unanderra and at the Baha’i Centre of Learning, Russell Vale . The blanket shows the individuality of each knitter through the choice of wool and colour, the knitting style and ability. From beginner, learning to knit on the day, to experienced knitters joined in; meeting old friends and making new ones. The youngest participant was 6 and the oldest 80 and we even had a couple of men giving it a go…the event was truly inclusive and for everyone.
The blanket is exhibited at the Wollongong City Library from 6 - 19 March 2012.

Blanket Facts:
Size: 1.15cm wide x 1.67cm
Number of Squares: 41
Number of knitters: 43
Number of types of wool: 32

The wool was sponsored by C.R. &  K. Daisy Designs, Fairy Meadow and Cultural Inspirations.
